Lighting Technician

Royal Conservatoire of Scotland - 3rd Year Musical Theatre

This production was quite technically complex from a lighting perspectice. We were in charge of rigging ~100 overheads, ladders, goalposts, booms, proscenium arch, cyclorama, on-stage practicals and front of house generics, as well as followspotting during the show.

Between the 3 technicians, two were based on followspotting and I was backstage as 'Stage LX', running the backstage track and attending to any problems that came up during shows.

Followspotting

Due to the absence of another technician on one of our two show days, I was asked to cover their followspot track, having had little to no time to practice. Certainly a trial by fire!

Practicals

As the technician on the LX stage track, most of my responsibilites were with our practicals. We had a photobooth that lit up and was powered by two 12v batteries, as well as astera bulbs and LED tape.

Working At Height

This production really challenged me to push my fear of heights both during front of house rigging, as we were attached to a fall restraint system on a harness, and focus of overheads using zarges and other ladders.
